Subject: Last test race before the season begins!
I thought it worth mentioning for the benefit of any new competitors this year who haven't yet run their robot in a test race. The main aim is not to win these races, nobody cares about the result & you don't need to give away any clues about how fast your robots are.

No, what we're trying to do here is identify any errors in the robots, such as failure to compile or install correctly on either linux or windows, or really odd behaviour that we can help identify so it can be fixed before the real races start.

So please, if you're going to run a new robot this year & haven't entered a test race, now's your last chance to do so - you have until Tuesday :)

I think Monday is the last day.

Sorry Andrew, I just haven't had time to finish the robots :(
EDIT: Hey, can I use Locus for my new bot?

You're welcome to base your robot off Locus - that's why I created it :)

Is there a Locus download anywhere? While I'll obviously not be in time to submit for the test races, and I'm pretty busy IRL at the moment, it'd still be a fun project.

Unfortunately I don't have the original locus anymore, however several people have made variants of it. The most effective by far was Eric Espie's "Inferno" in 2008, which you can download here: http://berniw.org/trb/events/event_view.php?vieweventid=11

Bear in mind that you'll need to add code to deal with tyre wear/temperatures, but that's the case no matter which robot you chose as a starting point.

Well, that's exactly what I'm doing!

I wish there was such a thing called 'finished robot'. This would save me a lot of time :)

        So true!

I do wonder about Jacob's goal of running multiple robots using different code-bases. Its difficult enough perfecting one robot, especially when first starting out.

Oh, I don't expect to perfect the art of the TORCS robot. I simply want to try two different ways of attacking the problem.
